MAKE A DONATION!
In November of 1999, MAX announced the formation of
The MAXfund intended to benefit the gay and lesbian community. In
addition to being the country's largest gay men's social club, MAX has
raised tens of thousand of dollars to support local community
organizations. In continuation of this charitable outpouring, The
MAXfund was established to serve as a more permanent expression of MAX's
strong ties to the community.
In memory of...
The fund is in memory of Mark Reed, former MAX Board Director, who
died of cancer and AIDS-related complications. "Because of my friendship
with Mark, this fund is very important to me," former MAX Chairman Mark
Sweeny said. "We all have stories of loved ones, whether it was friend
or lover, who left us too soon. It's because of these connections and
relationships that makes this so important. As I honor Mark through my
involvement in the Mark Reed MAXimum Impact Fund, I hope others will get
involved with the fund as a way of honoring the memory of their friends
and loved ones."
Three year goal...
MAX's goal is to reach $100,000 in endowed funds within three years.
This goal will be reached by raising money from events that directly
benefit the fund and by encouraging MAX members and friends to include
The MAXfund in their annual charitable giving. All money donated to the
fund will be tax deductible. United Way contributions and matching
corporate grants can be directed to the fund. If you would like to
donate to The MAXfund, we have an
donation form, which you can print and send to MAX with your
donation.
Grants and assistance...
The MAXfund is administered by the Horizons Foundation (www.horizonsfoundation.org).
The Horizons Foundation was established more than 20 years ago to
channel community funds to local organizations working to create a
diverse society and to fight homophobia. Last year Horizons awarded
almost $250,000 in grants. The Foundation has experienced strong growth
in the last couple of years and has become a model for similar efforts
across the country. Horizons carefully screens applicants for grants and
assists the organizations and individuals that have created funds to
select candidates for annual grants. Equally important, Horizons
provides invaluable assistance to local organizations trying to
establish themselves and especially helps them learn the ins and outs of
applying for grant money.
