MAXonline.org was the Internet home of MAX, a San Francisco Bay Area
social club for gay men.
MAX disbanded as an organization December 31, 2009.
This is the archive website of MAX.
Our
mission statement:
"MAX is a
membership-supported fraternal organization. Our mission is to provide a
fun, open, diverse and welcoming community for gay men via social and
philanthropic events. Through active participation in MAX, members
embrace fellowship, leadership, personal growth and community
involvement, fostering a positive gay image for all."
Started in 1988, MAX organized hundreds
of activities over the next 21 years. These included our Friday cocktail
parties we called "TGIFs", dinners, theater parties, art tours, wine
tastings, hiking, weekend forays to nearby areas such as Russian River,
Saratoga Springs, Napa Valley, Getty Museum, Palm Springs, and many
others. Longer trips
were to Mexico, Machu Pichu, Amsterdam. You can read details of all
these activities in our newsletters that you will find in the links to
the left of this page.
There were only a few members at the
beginning, but the organization grew to almost 1000 members in 1999. As
the Internet grew and provided other avenues for socializing, MAX's
membership waned, and it was time to give in to the new social
networking that had become so popular.
There is a lot of
information about MAX via the links to the left. Much of our physical
archives is being held by the Gay Historical Society here in San
Francisco, California. If you have any questions about MAX, email
